Cipla launches generic version of GSK's top asthma drug
Cipla has launched the generic version of Advair in Germany and Sweden.
Mumbai, September 3, 2014: Cipla has launched an anti-asthma inhaler in Germany and Sweden, which is a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline Plc's Advair. The company said in a statement that it will be marketing the new drug under the name Serrofloin in Germany and Salmeterol/Fluticasone Cipla in Sweden.
Denmark became the first European country to approve the sale of a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline's US$ 8 billion a year product, Advair and market experts have been expecting more such approvals. Analysts are of a view that making copies of inhaled drugs such as Advair is a challenge as it is complex to make a device that effectively delivers the medicine directly into the lungs.
