The facility is expected to be the world’s largest OTC facility.
Ahmedabad, January 30, 2013: Teva Pharmaceuticals, a US$ 18 billion generic drug maker is setting up an OTC medicine facility in Gujarat in collaboration with Proctor & Gamble. The company had ground-breaking ceremony for its multi-product facility at Sanand, near Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
It may be noted here that the facility would focus on the over-the-counter (OTC) product manufacturing and will initially cater to the domestic and Asia pacific markets. The manufacturing plans of the company include liquid, oral solid dosage and inhaler production including P&G's current Vicks range of cough & cold medicines and throat drops in India, along with potentially other over-the-counter products for India and other markets.
It is believed that the modular design of the plant will help Teva to further expand the plant as the demand for consumer healthcare products is witnessing a phenomenal rise in India and across the globe.
On one end, Teva Pharma is world’s largest generics maker and on the other, P&G is the largest player FMCG industry. In other words, the complementary skill set is expected to make it a healthy and fruitful partnership for both the parties.
