Pharma exports to reach Rs 75,000 crore in 2012-13
Exports from Indian pharmaceutical companies are expected to touch Rs 75,000 crore in 2012-13.
Chennai, February 21, 2013: Pharmaceutical exports of Indian companies are expected to register an increase of over 25 per cent in 2012-13 to reach Rs 75,000 crore. "Exports of pharmaceuticals in 2004 was Rs 17,000 crore. In the last nine years, it reported a strong growth and in 2012, exports stood at Rs 63,500 crore. For the period ending March 31, 2013, we are contemplating to grow by 25 per cent to around Rs 75,000 crore", said Dr P V Appaji, Director General, Pharmexcil.
He also mentioned that 2,500 out of the total 3,000 exports under its membership are small and medium scale enterprises. It is worth mentioning here that US accounts for over 27 per cent of India’s pharma exports and Europe for 19 per cent followed by Africa at 17 per cent and Middle East at seven per cent.
Pharmexcil is organising the "iPHEX 2013" scheduled to begin on April 24 in Mumbai which is expected to attract participation from over 250 Indian companies.
