Brand India Pharma at CPhI Worldwide 2013

Major campaign supporting critical growth sector takes next step towards US$ 25 billion revenue target by 2016

October 11, 2013: Senior officials from the Department of Commerce, along with representatives from India's fast-growing pharmaceutical industry, will be representing the Brand India Pharma campaign at CPhI Worldwide 2013, in Frankfurt, Germany this year. CPhI Worldwide is the largest pharmaceutical trade exhibition organised each year by the UBM Group and takes place in October rotating between three cities, namely, Frankfurt, Madrid and Paris. CPhI Worldwide 2013 is scheduled to be held from October 22-24 in Frankfurt.

The Indian presence at CPhI Worldwide 2013 will include senior officials of the Department of Commerce, representatives from Pharmexcil and a large contingent of Indian business leaders from the industry. More than 200 Indian pharmaceutical companies will be taking part in CPhI Worldwide this year as part of the Brand India Pharma initiative.

"Indian pharmaceuticals have been able to penetrate highly regulated markets like US and Europe thanks to the industry's focus on quality and innovation. We now have the capability to produce the best quality medicines here in India, and the Brand India Pharma initiative is designed to support and help our home grown industry play a larger part on the world stage in the coming years," commented Mr Sudhanshu Pandey, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.

"Pharmaceutical exports from India grew by 11 per cent at US$ 14.7 billion in 2012-13 and we are poised to continue that growth in the short, medium and long-term," added Dr Appaji P V, Director General, Pharmexcil.

The Brand India Pharma campaign is a significant initiative led by Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) and India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) under the aegis of the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, to highlight the value proposition that Indian pharmaceuticals present today to the world.

Launched at CPhI, Japan in March 2012, the Brand India Pharma campaign has played a critical role in highlighting the value proposition of Indian pharmaceutical products for the global market. India was the Focus Country at CPhI Worldwide in 2012, and will be the Value Partner this year at Frankfurt.

With a strategic mix of branding elements such as on-ground branding, media outreach, business seminars and public events, Brand India Pharma aims to showcase the strengths of the Indian pharmaceutical industry. This year's campaign will focus on the quality of Indian generics, the growth drivers within the industry (government support & regulatory framework, cost efficiencies and technical capabilities) and will play its part to achieve the 2016 US$ 25 billion revenue target set by the Government of India for pharmaceutical exports.
